GRANDMA'S PECAN & MAPLE SYRUP PIE

A well deserved sweet treat for all those busy Gardeners. This is a must-have for pie lovers in all seasons. One additional variation includes chocolate chips which is super yum. Enjoy!

Ingredients

   Based on single portion   

  • 3 lightly beaten eggs

  • 1/2 cup white corn syrup

  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1 cup white sugar combined with 1 tablespoon flour

  • 1/2 stick (4 tablespoons) butter

  • 1 9-inch pie crust (unbaked)

  • 2/3 cup pecans


Alternate less sweet -

  • 3 eggs

  • 1/2 cup honey

  • 1/3 cup maple syrup

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt

  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled

  • 1 1/2 cup pecan pieces

  • 1 (9-inch) prepared pie crust (in pie pan)


Variation

* Add 1 ½ cups semisweet chocolate chips for a fudge brownie richness

Preparation

*Requires premade pie shell pastry.


Step 1

    Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).


Step 2

    Mix eggs, corn syrup, maple syrup, salt, vanilla, the sugar-flour mix, and butter together and pour into the pie shell. Top with pecans.


Step 3

    Bake for 10 minutes. Lower oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake until knife blade comes out clean (50 to 60 minutes).


** Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or fresh whipped cream.
